JULY 2008 - Current Issues News

ANNUAL PARISH MEETING FRIDAY 16TH MAY 2006

The Annual Parish Meeting was be held at the Rothley Centre, Mountsorrel Lane on Friday 16th May to which ALL RESIDENTS were invited to hear what has been happening over the past 12 months. (Approx 10 attended)

Before the meeting a representative from Charnwood's Planning Department gave presentation - to around 75 interested persons - about the planning application to build 150 new houses on the old allotment site on Loughborough Road and how to register objections.

The NEW ROTHLEY CENTRE

Subject to finance being obtained RPC are planning to build a new Rothley Centre on land owned by the parish adjacent to the School & Library. The facilities will replicate those currently in the existing Centre (which is leased to RPC by CBC)& the Village Hall - which would be sold to partially fund the new building.

Initial Designs presented at a public consultation event was held on Wednesday 17th January 2007 - attended by around 250 with just short of 90 completing a questionnaire. The comments, both good & bad considered and where possible alterations to the plans made to address concerns. A common comment was the wish that an improved library facility be included in the new building - but LCC advise that they have no funding available and cannot therefore participate in the project (however much they would like to).

Planning granted on 12th July 2007.A funding application to the Big Lottery was unsuccessful - due to there being an unprecedented number of applications for limited funds.Other outside funders are therefore being approached.RPC has asked Charnwood for a commitment to assist, which in turn will assist in convincing other funding bodies to help.
